Unfortunately, accidents can happen to cyclists, skiers, runners and other outdoor athletes. An ECOS® Emergency ID (or "EID" as we call it) provides a unique and flexible way for you to store and communicate identification, emergency contact and other important medical information.  Communicating this information to emergency medical personnel can be critical if, as a result of an injury, you are unable to speak.   But even if you are conscious and coherent, it’s important (and convenient) to have certain information at your fingertips, such as information about your health insurance, medications you are taking, and your primary physician’s contact information.
You’ll find a good description of how our EIDs work by clicking here.
We currently make three different types of EIDs. One is a small (approximately 1-5/16” x 3/4”) laminated plastic tag with a stainless steel split key ring that is designed to be attached to a zipper on clothing or other equipment (for example, the zipper on a saddle bag or a hydration pack). You also can attach a plastic EID to other locations on clothing or equipment. The second is a small (approximately 1-1/2” x 13/16”) aluminum tag that comes with an adjustable hook and loop wrist strap. The third is a small (approximately 1-1/2" x 1") flexible vinyl tag with a self-adhesive backing that can be placed in a variety of locations (for example, on a bicycling or skiing helmet, on the back of a smartphone, or on a key chain).
A QR Code (also known as a “Quick Response” Code) is a matrix barcode commonly consisting of dark colored modules arranged in a square pattern on a lighter colored background. Many different types of information can be encoded in a QR Code. Encoded in each Emergency ID QR Code is a unique website address or URL. When scanned by a smartphone or other scanning device, the Emergency ID QR Code opens a webpage that shows an individual’s Emergency ID Profile.
There are scanning devices that are designed solely for the purpose of scanning QR Codes and barcodes. However, today QR Codes are most commonly scanned by smartphones. Some smartphones have pre-installed QR Code reader applications, including certain Android, Nokia and Blackberry smartphones. Other smartphones, such as the iPhone, require that you download a separate QR Code reader application. Many QR Code reader applications are available free of charge. If an emergency responder is unable to scan the QR Code on your EID, access to your Profile is available by entering the seven-digit EID Number (i.e., the number that appears beneath the QR Code on all of our EIDs) on the “Emergency Personnel Assistance” page of our website.
An Emergency ID Profile is a web-based information page that you create during the set-up process and that will open when someone scans the Emergency ID QR Code on your EID. Your Emergency ID Profile enables you to store and communicate identification, emergency contact and other important medical information.  Communicating this information to emergency medical personnel can be critical if, as a result of an injury, you are unable to speak.   But even if you are conscious and coherent, it’s important (and convenient) to have certain information at your fingertips, such as information about your health insurance, medications you are taking, and your primary physician’s contact information.can communicate identification, emergency contact and other important information to emergency medical personnel.
You create your Emergency ID Profile during the set-up process. It’s a simple matter of typing into a pre-formatted webpage the information you wish to appear in your Profile. You can find step-by-step set-up instructions here.
The information you include in your Emergency ID Profile is completely up to you, and you can change it at any time. Possibilities include your name, your address, the name and phone number of a person to be contacted in the event of an emergency, the name and phone number of your physician, medical insurance information, and information on existing medical conditions, allergies, and medications you currently are taking.

Yes, you can change the information in your Emergency ID Profile at any time and as often as you like through the “My Account” section of our website. You’ll need to login with your password to make changes, which prevents others from modifying your Profile.

Being able to change the information in your Emergency ID Profile is one of the key benefits of our EIDs. Whether the changes are long-term because the information in your Profile is no longer current, or temporary because, for example, you’re traveling and want to specify different contact information, or the person you’ve designated to be contacted in the event of an emergency is unavailable and you want to designate someone else, it’s quick and easy to change your Profile.

If you lose (or discard) an EID, we recommend that you promptly deactivate the link between the QR Code on the EID and your Emergency ID Profile. You can do this through the “My Account” section of our website.
Because the purpose of our EIDs is to provide information about you to medical personnel in the event of an emergency, the information in your Emergency ID Profile is not secured – it can be accessed by anyone who scans the QR Code on your EID. However, you have complete control over the information that appears in your Emergency ID Profile and changes cannot be made without your password.
No, you can have the Emergency ID QR Codes on any number of EIDs all linked to the same Emergency ID Profile. Alternatively, if you want the Emergency ID QR Code on each EID you own to link to a different Profile, you can do that too.
Yes, you can sign up on the ECOS® EID website using your Facebook account, and thereby avoid the need to create a separate email address and password combination for our website. However, if you do so you will need to select the “Connect using Facebook” button each time you wish to sign in to your ECOS® EID account.
